Director’s Bio

Ms. McCormick

I am a Pinellas county native. I started playing piano at the age of 7. I graduated from Northeast High School in 1998. I went on to Florida Southern College to receive a bachelor of music education degree (piano) in 2003 and a Master of Arts in music education from the University of South Florida (2006). I started teaching at Kings Highway Elementary in 2003. While at Kings Highway, I taught general music. I also started and coached the step team. I taught there for 5 years and then moved to Melrose Elementary in 2008. I taught there for 2 years and then moved to Meadowlawn Middle School in 2010 and stayed there until 2020. While at Meadowlawn, I taught chorus and musical theater. My choruses always received excellent and superior ratings at MPA. In 2013 my top choir was named choral grand champion at Music Festival USA in Orlando. My musical theater students compete at Jr. Thespian district and state competitions. They have received top honors being named best in show. I also music directed the spring musicals: Annie, Aladdin, Into the Woods Jr., Lion King Jr. Alice in Wonderland Jr., and Grease at Meadowlawn. I started here at Tarpon in January of 2021. I am excited about what the future holds for the vocal department here at Tarpon. When I am not teaching here at Tarpon, I also teach musical theater at St. Pete College, Clearwater campus. When I am not teaching, I also act and musical direct shows for different theaters in the Tampabay area. I also have a cake business- Cups and Cake by Latoya. When I am not at school, the theater, or baking cakes, I enjoy spending time with my wonderful husband.
